Jammu and Kashmir: Terrorists attack Sunjuwan Military base in Jammu, soldier critically injured

Terrorists attack Sunjuwan Military base in Jammu

Terrorists opened fire on a sentry post outside the Sunjuwan army installation in Jammu on Monday morning, injuring an army man and sparking a large search and rescue effort.

According to an army spokesman, at approximately 10:50 am, a soldier was critically injured after a few shots were fired at the Sunjuwan Military Station on the outskirts of Jammu.

“A sniper rifle appears to have been used by terrorists to carry out the standoff attack. Nothing happened after a few gunshots were heard in the neighborhood, according to defence sources cited by Hindustan Times.

In order to find and neutralize the terrorists who fired outside the base, Jammu Police and the army have reportedly joined forces and begun a joint operation in the high-security region.

“An army jawan was injured after hearing gunfire outside the facility close to Sunjuwan military station. There is a search going on. A spokeswoman for the Jammu and Kashmir police stated, “Details are awaited.”

According to additional reports, the army has dispatched more reinforcements and is employing drones to track down the attackers.

Fear was aroused by the firing, and the local police’s Special Operations Group (SOG) hurried to the location to help the army in a large search and rescue effort to find the terrorists who were running away.

The officials stated that although the search is ongoing, there has been no communication with the terrorists thus far.

The major military installation in Jammu City is the Sunjuwan Brigade. Six troops, one civilian, and three terrorists were killed when terrorists assaulted the military camp earlier in February 2018.

It is noteworthy that the terror incident occurs just as the area is getting ready for high-profile officials to hold campaign rallies ahead of the state’s Assembly elections.

Addressing electoral rallies in the area are likely to be Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath, Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi, Congresswoman Priyanka Gandhi, and Sonia Gandhi.
